How to care for Bunny ears cactus flowers?

In terms of temperatures, Bunny ears cactus opt to grow in warm to slightly hot areas. To be precise, they prefer to grow in a temperature range around 70- and 100-degrees Fahrenheit ( 21-27 degrees Celsius).

However, they would prefer to have cooler temperatures during winter months. A mild cold temperature range of 50-65 degrees Fahrenheit would be optimal for the Bunny ears cactus vigorous growth during late fall to early spring.

Further aforesaid never keep them closer to heat sources. In case, if you fail to provide the required temperature ranges for them, they will end up perishing during spring.

Humidity requirement

When it comes to the humidity aspect of these plants, it is vital that you expose them to low humidity levels at all times.

If you wish you could consider placing a dehumidifier to provide them the best conditions as much as you can.

Light requirement

Bunny ears cactus need to have plenty of sunlight for their survival. In other words, bright indirect sunlight is what would suit these plants the best during most of the year.

Once you grow them as houseplants, you can place them in a brightest sunny spot where they can gain natural sunlight.

If you find it difficult to provide sufficient sunlight, you can place fluorescent tubes for about 14 hours. It is crucial that you supply the necessary sunlight levels for them as these are strong sunlight feeders.

Watering requirement

Bunny ears cactus have a special requirement when it comes to watering. These are desert growing plants which literally means you need to be accurate in watering them

It will ensure that the plant’s roots system grows healthily and vigorously. Bunny ear cactus can stand drought periods for extended periods.

Season wise, it is vital that you water them regularly during summer and to keep their soil damp. Furthermore, ensure that you always keep inspecting the soil status between two watering sessions.

They hate to be in waterlogged or in soggy conditions. Hence if you figure out their top layer is dry, you can resume watering them.

Bunny ears cactus can thrive well with occasional watering. Further, many people tend to place a tray under the pots, so that once it stores excess moisture and throws them away.

Once every three to four weeks would be sufficient for the survival of the Bunny ears cactus during autumn and winter.

Having said that, they can thrive well without any water at all during winter too. However, make sure that you water them moderately during spring.

If you end up over watering the plants, it will contribute to root rot. This is a commonly spotted condition which these plants may go through specially during winter.

If you can witness any signs of shriveling, it literally means the plants are running short of water and you need to act fast and remedy them.

Soil requirement

When it comes to the right soil mix, what I would ideally suggest for you is to proceed with a substrate which has an excellent drainage.

With that being said, they can also thrive well with the standard cactus soil mix or in succulent soil mixes as well.

However, if you wish to enhance the draining factor, you can consider applying substances such as perlite or bark. Moreover, they can perform well in a sandy soil mix as well.

If you are an enthusiastic succulents cactus lover and if you wish to make a soil mix on your own for these precious plants, you could do that as well.

So, to make it you need to mix 40 % percent of sand, 20 % percent of peat moss. It would help to better the aeration of the soil mix as well as the draining of the soil mix.

Additionally, you need to go ahead with a planter which has ample drainage. Besides, you should select a pot which is made of clay.

Fertilizer requirement

Bunny ears cactus have very insignificant requirements when it comes to fertilizers.

However, you can consider applying liquid houseplant fertilizers which have a NPK level of 20-20-20 as it would be beneficial for the vigorous growth of the Bunny ears cactus.

However, ensure that you dilute it to half strength and then apply. Never feed them with fertilizers which have a high component of NPK.

However, if you wish to boost the flowering of the Bunny ears cactus, I recommend applying a 5-10-10 fertilizer.

No matter what fertilizer you use, you need to always ensure that you apply it only in their active growing season which could be summer most of the time.

Furthermore, ensure that you do not over feed the plants as unless it would result in stunt growth of the plants. Further refrain from feeding the newly potted Bunny ears cactus as you need to first allow them to develop a strong root system.

If you feed them accurately, it will ensure that your precious Bunny ears cactus are growing healthily and vigorously.

Further they would be effective in encouraging flowering as well. However, if you can’t feed them to a right schedule best is to have a timetable and feed them according to that.

Once these plants get their optimal growing conditions, they can flower at any time and it would be so pleasing to spot them in full blossom.
