How do you take care of  Echeveria midway?

Light Requirement

Keep in mind that you need to grow them under full sunlight to partial shade as those conditions would be optimal for the plant’s healthy growth.

Never leave them exposed to direct sunlight during hot summer as it would result in scorches in the plants.

Instead try to expose them for filtered sunlight. They can thrive in full sunlight when the lighting conditions are not too harsh.

Furthermore, if you have kept them indoors and if you wish to relocate them to your garden, ensure that you do it in such a way where you will allow the plants to become accustomed to full sunlight.

If not, it would traumatize  the plants and result in sunburns. Sun burns could be so annoying as you cannot get rid of them no matter what you do.

Temperature and humidity

Echeveria midway would prefer to have warmer temperatures right throughout their growth.

Having said that, they can also stand a colder temperature of 0 degrees Celsius ( 32 degrees Fahrenheit ) for some time too.

When it comes to the right humidity levels, ensure that you do not leave them under excess humidity as it would be unhealthy for them. With that being said, they can tolerate the regular humidity level in the room temperature.

Is it cold hardy?

Echeveria midway is cold hardy up to 32 degrees Fahrenheit ( 0 degrees Celsius).

USDA Hardiness Zone

Echeveria midway would grow well in USDA hardiness zones 9-12.

Watering Requirement

Watering the  Echeveria midway cactus properly is very important in maintaining the well being and  the vigorous growth of these plants.

Echeveria midway does not depend on a plenty of water just like the rest of other many cacti and succulents.

Having said that they do not prefer to be bone dry also. If you spot their leaves are wrinkled that literally means they are running short of sufficient water.

Having said that , it is always best to water them less rather than watering them more as it is very unlikely that you can save an overwatered Echeveria midway cactus.

On the other hand, one or two watering sessions would be able to revive an underwatered Echeveria midway cactus.

Moreover , you need to always ensure that you allow the plant’s soil to dry between two watering sessions and then resume watering them again.

Once you finish watering, check whether the excess water is moving away from the pot draining hole without retaining it in the pot. As you may already know, you need to water them more in summer and water them less in winter.

Soil Requirement Type / Ph

A fast draining soil mix  would work well with the Echeveria midway cactus which will ensure that there will be no excess moisture retained in the pot.

Simply you may go ahead with a standard cactus soil mix to grow them. You may easily find them in any garden store. It is easy and convenient for you.

If you wish to make a soil mix on your own, all you have to do is to mix three parts of regular potting soil into two parts of coarse  sand and one part of perlite.

Pot size Potting and Repotting

The most important factor to check when selecting a right pot for the Echeveria midway cactus is to check whether they have ample drainage.

Moreover, you may choose a pot which is high in porosity too. You may consider repotting these plants  once every two years.

Literally these plants do not need frequent repotting. You could consider repotting them if they had outgrown from the pot or if you had freshly purchased them from the garden stores.

If you wish to repot the Echeveria midway cactus, first and foremost you need to ascertain whether their soil is dry.

If it is dry, take the plant out of the pot and clean the dirt around the plants. Next you can conduct a close check up and see whether the roots are healthy.

If you spot any blackened or rotten plant parts, you can snip them off. After that treat those fungicides and transplant  them in the fleshpot.

Skip watering them right after you water them. You need to conduct repotting during their active growing period only.

Where to Plant

A place where there will be plenty of bright sunlight would be ideal for the Echeveria midway cactus.

Additionally, when you pot them , ensure that you grow them in a soil mix which is fertile and well-draining too.

Fertilizer and time of year

Echeveria midway cactus do not heavily depend on regular fertilizers. They are used to grow in less fertile soil when they grow in the natural habitats

This literally means you need to make sure that you do not overfeed them at any given time. Unless it would result in feed burns.

Best is to feed them occasionally during spring  and summer.  However, you should feed them with caution during these periods also as if not result in unhealthy impact on the plants.

I recommend using a cactus or succulents fertilizer to feed them. Alternatively, you may use a liquid fertilizer which is diluted for two to four months.

Flower

They flower from late spring to early winter. This plant is a polycarpic and they can flower and produce seeds many times during their lifetime.

Dormancy

Echeveria midway cactus are winter dormant plants

Toxicity

There are no records to show on the toxicity of the Echeveria midway cactus

Common bugs and illnesses

Echeveria midway cactus are strong contenders when it comes to resisting the diseases and the pests’ attacks.

With that being said, you need to watch out for pests such as mealybug, spider mites, fungus gnats etc. To further elaborate on these, if we take fungus gnats into consideration, you could spot them as tiny black flies .

Further  they would tend to look like mosquitoes as well. You could spot them in the soil mainly.

Spider mites would also be tiny creatures and they would look like dust. If you come across any, you can simply shake them off from the plant to a piece of paper.

They would usually occupy the underside of the leaves and they would depend on the plant’s sap.

Furthermore, mealy bugs is yet another pest type which could invade your precious Echeveria midway cactus.

They would also tend to feed on the plant’s sap. However, you could identify them easily as they would tend to take a white cottony waxy appearance. Mealybugs would tend to occupy the leaves and the stem.

In addition to that, if you supply them with excess water, it will result in root rot. Root rot could be so risky as if it spread on a severe level, chances are that it could even die.

How to propagate Echeveria midway

Propagating the Echeveria midway cactus is a simple process. You may use their offsets, leaves or stem cuttings for this purpose.

If you have a healthy Echeveria midway cactus, you can simply separate those offsets from the main stem and grow them as separate plants.

In addition to that you may proceed with the leaf  propagation method as well.  For that you simply have to separate a leaf from the main stem.

When you remove it, ensure that you gently twist it off from the plant without damaging the leaves. Next you can leave them in a warmer dry place which will allow them to wither and develop callus for a few days.

Next place them in a well-draining soil mix and place the specimen in a spot where they can absorb bright filtered sunlight. Never expose them for direct sunlight during this process.

Best is to use multiple leaves for this as not all leaves will succeed in this process. Mist the soil lightly. When they develop the roots, you can water them sparingly just like how you do with the regular plants.

It will take about one months’ time to produce rosettes from the leaf edges. However, refrain from segregating the leaf from the rosette as the rosette would be absorbing the nutrients from the leaf. Once the older lead is shriveled, you may take it off.

If you wish to use the stem cuttings for the propagation, you could simply take the cutting during spring and then do.

Having said that, this is not the common way of propagating the Echeveria midway cactus. However, if you have an etiolated Echeveria midway cactus, you can consider conduiting the stem cutting propagation method.

Once you obtain the stem cuttings, you can allow them to become calluses and then insert it into a pot in which you have filled it with a well-draining soil mix. Water them sparingly so that the root can develop.
