Why do spider plants need light?

Spider plants would require light for photosynthesis and so on.

If I elaborate more on photosynthesis, it is the process which makes carbohydrates from elements such as light, oxygen and water. Carbohydrate literally means energy.

They would require energy to have a proper growth, flower blossoming and for seed production as well

If they do not get adequate light, they would not be able to conduct the aforesaid activities and chances are that energy reserves will deplete, and it would cause the plants to die at the end.

As such Light is a vital aspect in terms of having a proper growth of the spider plants.

Plants act in contrast to the animals as plants are autotrophs which mean they produce their food source on their own.

As such, if the spider plants do not get adequate light, their photosynthesis process would be slower despite it having adequate amounts of water or carbon dioxide.

If you could enhance the lighting conditions, it would stimulate the photosynthesis process. Hence, it is quite common to spot artificial lights being used to overcome this issue.

You could usually expose these plants for about 8-12 hours of led lighting. If you spot weak stems and lighter leaves, you need to consider exposing them for more than that.
